Star Spangled Nanna 6.0% ABV A Double Dry Hopped IPA brewed using pale best ale malt together with an all-American line up of Columbus, Mosaic and Citra hops. The result is a crisp, balanced, light amber beer with a medium bitterness overflowing with grapefruit, mango and passionfruit flavours and a fruity resinous bouquet to match. The Inspiration: This Ale is a celebration of the memory of the first President of the United States George Washington’s Paternal Grandmother Mildred Gale whose final resting place is in St. Nicholas’ Church in Whitehaven. Mildred moved to England with her three children, John, Mildred and Augustine (George’s father) after marrying George Gale, a prominent Whitehaven merchant. Mildred succumbed to fever after becoming pregnant and passed away on January 30th, 1701, aged just 30. The exact whereabouts of her grave is unknown, but a commemorative plaque is in the garden of St Nicholas’ church. Grandmother of a Founding Father, we’ll raise a glass to that. Cheers Nanna!
